What is Personal Integrity?
Personal integrity is the integration of standards, behavior, and personal ideas.
Not only that, it includes being honest, consistent, and uncompromising towards ethical and moral values.
We can’t claim to have personal integrity unless our values and ideas do not coincide.
There is another concept that has a profound linkage to our integrity, and that is congruence.
To put it simply, congruency is when our behavior and words match with each other.
From the practical viewpoint, our example is like a train, where congruency is the railway track over which we traverse.
When our beliefs and ideas are coherent, that’s when we – the train – run smoothly on the tracks – the congruency. But as soon as our words and behavior start to jumble, our train starts to run off the track, and then comes a time when it completely leaves its tracks and goes astray.
We all have an inner child within us, which is our subconscious state.
The problem starts to arise when our subconscious state does not agree with our inner child, then our words go against our actions, and we start fooling ourselves.
Integrity with oneself is the honesty that stops us from doing wrong, even when no one else is watching our behavior.
Claiming integrity without actually being integral is equivalent to being completely dishonest with nobody else but oneself.
The railway tracks will only align when our words and behavior match without distinction.
Role of Personal Integrity in our Life
Personal integrity plays a vital role and has a significant impact on our lives and relationships.
For example, when we make a promise to ourselves, our integrity comes into play. The promises we make to ourselves directly connect to our personal integrity because we are our own judge whether to keep the promise or break it.
To become upright and preserve integrity, you have to raise awareness of your own self by understanding the essence of integrity and congruence in your life. It’s not only believing; it’s about admitting the fact that life without integrity is meaningless and unfulfilling.
If you really want to live the life that you dream about, you have to learn to make choices that positively impact your life by setting your own goals and limitations.
But what if the choices you make do not go in your favor?
Then you have to learn to admit that choices can go wrong, but there is always a next time.
Make yourself believe that if not now, perhaps next time will be the right time when your choices will favor your decision, and your train will finally get back on its track again.
Ultimately, as a Leader, if you don't have Integrity, people will see straight through you....people do what people see...
Integrity is - Doing the right thing, at the right time, even though no one else is looking.....because believe me, there is always someone watching you as a Leader.

Great blog! True, integrity makes you secure and confident in who you are as a person. ... When you don't have integrity, there's nothing to help your self-esteem since you're not honest about your morals and values. Confidence comes from being secure in who you are and reflecting on that to others. I have come across Marshall Goldsmith's blog about leadership & coaching. Can be useful for reference sake - It's not about the coach
